Our story
I grew up around a wood-fired oven, where my uncle would bake small biscuit treats called Bun Buns to sell at the local markets. It was my first glimpse into the magic of what water, flour, and fire could create—and it was exhilarating. That early experience sparked a passion that still drives me today: the joy of watching simple ingredients transform through craftsmanship into slow-fermented, high-quality bread and pastry.

SUBA is an East London-based artisanal bakery rooted in West African traditions, shaped by multicultural influences across Africa, Europe, and Asia. “SUBA” — meaning both “Good Morning” and “See You Tomorrow” in Wolof — embodies a feeling of home, daily renewal, and shared community.
